  • The prolific Filipino author Liwayway Arceo began writing as a teenager. In more than five decades of work, she has produced on average a novel and 18 short stories a year. In her native Tagalog, the national tongue of the Philippines, she is considered a modernist and a feminist, whose frequent subject is the virtue and importance of women.

    The weekly journal Liwayway, which Arceo edited for many years, has published the majority of her stories and served as a literary model for young writers of the Philippines. In addition to her fiction, Arceo wrote a radio serial, Ilaw ng Tahanan Light of the Home , which ran for several years and dramatized the domestic role of women from all walks of life.
