This training gave me a firm foundation in figurative and realistic drawing and painting. At Oxbow, under the tutelage of several gifted artists and where the studios were seldom closed, I learned new skills and had the freedom to explore abstract expression and to paint on a very large scale. I believe that color and place—both the real places I have lived and visited and the fictional ones I imagine—exert the most influence on my recent work. In addition to making and looking at art, I love to travel, cook, read fantasy and science fiction novels, watch movies, and spend time in nature. I am passionate about environmental protection and sustainability and about social justice and mental health issues.

Red is my favorite color, and I remembered as a very young child drawing triangles with a scarlet Crayola crayon my forever favorite crayon and being obsessed with perfecting the equilateral triangle.
