He was born in Ludhiana, Punjab in His father Amarjit Singh Rajpal nephew of great writer Gulzar is a successful businessman and politician, who wanted his son to become an actor. So he supported Karam to fulfill his dreams. After completing graduation in Business Administration, he joined an acting school in Mumbai. He made his television debut in the year , playing the male lead of Hamari Saass Leela.

However the series went unnoticed. He left the series in the middle due to some internal issues. Same year, he played negative lead in the series, Rohit Thakral in Parichay , followed by another grey shaded role in Kya Huaa Tera Vaada , the following year. But the television show was not successful comparing his previous venture.
